Areas of excellence

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) – It is the most common type of bariatric surgery that aims at reducing the absorption of nutrients by lowering your food intake. The surgical procedure, which is typically irreversible, involves the removal of a large portion of your stomach. The smaller portion, that is left behind, is equivalent to the size of a walnut. A small portion of the small intestine is also removed and the remaining end is connected to the tiny portion of the stomach that is left behind. This helps to limit the patient’s appetite as the food that you eat bypasses a major portion of the stomach and some section of the small intestine.

Sleeve gastrectomy – The surgical procedure, as the name suggests, involves the creation of a long sleeve-like pouch by removing nearly 80 per cent of the stomach. This significantly helps to reduce the capacity of the stomach as well as alleviates the production of appetite-regulating hormone ghrelin, which in turn decreases your appetite. Unlike Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, it does not involve the rerouting of the intestines.

Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch – The surgical procedure is carried out in two steps. The first step, being somewhat similar to sleeve gastrectomy, involves the creation of a sleeve-like pouch, which is then connected to the end section of the intestines, near the duodenum. This helps to bypass a major section of the intestine, thereby, reducing the absorption of nutrients.
